St. Alban's Episcopal Church's
Domestic Violence Awareness Resources

Domestic violence, whether directed against a spouse, partner, child, older relative, or anyone else in one's family, is something that we would like to pretend does not exist among "people like us" (whatever we mean by that.) It is, in fact, not a respecter of money, social class, education, race, religion, or any other category which we might think is exempt from it.

NO ONE DESERVES TO BE THREATENED OR ABUSED!
To find help near you, call the Iowa Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-942-0333.
In an emergency, dial 911.

The following are some of the web resources which may be helpful to those wishing to learn more about, or to escape from, domestic violence. Brief quotations from the web sites may be included to give you a "flavor" of the linked sites. Note that masculine pronouns are often used for an abuser and feminine pronouns for an adult victim. This is the situation in over 92% of adult-adult abuse situations, and it is awkward to keep saying "he or she", etc., to repeatedly clarify that it is not 100%.
